Peloton Bikes are great and packed with features such as a large digital display. But if you’re like me, you probably just stared at your bike in confusion, wondering how to turn on Peloton.
Look:
I get it; the bike comes fully set up upon delivery, but how do you turn on the Peloton bike? Don’t worry; turning your Peloton Bike on is just easy. It’s almost all you need to do to get your bike assembled.
That said, this article will save you some time, so you don’t end up blankly staring at your bike and can start riding immediately.
What you’ll need to Turn on a Peloton
Unlike most other basic spin bikes, except for some top-tier models such as the Nordictrack S22i or Echelons, the Peloton bike requires electricity to turn it on. Without a power supply, you won’t be able to turn on the Peloton display and connect to your profile so you can start your workout. With that in mind, here’s a list of three things you must have to use the peloton correctly.
To turn on a Peloton bike, you need:
- The power cord that comes with the bike
- A wall socket or extension plug to plug in the adapter cord into the wall
- Internet connection
- User Manual
Once you have those 4 things, you are ready to turn on the peloton bike.
Can you use a Peloton Bike without power?
Yes, you can ride your peloton bike without power since the resistance mechanism is purely mechanical. However, like using a peloton without a subscription, you won’t be able to see or measure your resistance or cadence as you would if you turn on the peloton.
Do I need to keep Peloton plugged in?
Yes, the Peloton must stay plugged in to keep the display and all the core features running.
How to Turn on a Peloton Bike:
Before we go any further, I just want to point out that turning on your Peloton is no rocket science. In fact you only need to follow these 5 simple steps:
Connect the Adapter to a Power Supply
The first thing you should do is connect your power adapter to the wall socket and to the back of the peloton bike.
Where does the Peloton power Cord go?
The connection jack will be close to the bike’s rear and close to the stabilizing feet in the center.
Take the cord and insert it into the power cord connection point after plugging in the adapter to the wall.
Note: When you receive your peloton bike, you’ll also receive a power adapter that you’ll need to plug in for your bike to function properly. The power adapter has two parts; one part connects from the wall socket to the power brick, and the other goes from the brick to the bike.

Connection from the brick to the bike
After connecting the power adapter to the wall socket, you should see a green LED on the power brick. Once you have that green light, you know that power is being supplied.
Locate the Power Button
The power button for Peloton machines such as the Bike, Bike+, and Tread are all in almost the same location on the back of the touchscreen. Depending on the peloton generation touchscreen you have on your bike, the button may be Orange. Or it may be a slight tinge of grey with a peloton “P” logo.
Turn on the Peloton Bike
To turn on the Peloton Bike, you only need to hold the power button for 2 seconds until the screen comes on. Once you’ve turned on the bike, it will stay active if you don’t leave it without activity for more than 15 minutes. Any longer than that, and the bike screen will go to sleep, and you’ll need to turn it on again.
Connect your Peloton to the Internet
Your peloton bike needs access to the internet to get the on-demand and live classes. So after you have the bike turned on, the next thing you’ll need to do is to connect it to your Wi-Fi. If it’s your first time turning on the peloton, it will automatically prompt you to connect to the internet. So you need to follow those prompts and enter your wifi password.
If your network is unsecured, the bike will connect to it automatically.
Setup your Account & Profile
The last step is to set up your peloton account and connect it with the bike. To do this, you’ll need to either create a new account (email + password) if you’re a first-time user or login with an existing account on the touchscreen. You can use the account you created when you purchased the bike or enter a new one.
How to Turn Off Peloton Bike
Turning off the Peloton bike after use is pretty simple. All you need to do is hold the power button on the screen until it provides a prompt to shut down. Select the shutdown prompt and wait for the screen to go off. Alternatively, you can also hold the power button that’s behind the screen for a few seconds until it turns off.
